World leaders called for close cooperation as they congratulated U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on his victory Wednesday morning.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was one of the first to congratulate Trump. The Russian parliament applauded when the final results were revealed Wednesday morning, and Putin said he looks forward to a new era of “fully fledged relations” with the U.S.

“We understand that it will not be an easy path given the current state of degradation in the relations,” Putin said in his address in the Kremlin. “And as I have repeatedly said, it’s not our fault that Russian-American relations are in such a poor state. But Russia wants and is ready to restore fully fledged relations with the United States.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for mutual respect between the world’s largest economies in a personal message to Trump.

“I place great importance on the China-U.S. relationship, and look forward to working with you to uphold the principles of non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation,” Xi told Trump in a message, according to Chinese state television.

Several European leaders have openly criticized Trump during the election cycle and endorsed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton instead.

British Prime Minister Theresa May previously expressed disapproval over Trump’s rhetoric, but called for the countries to continue their close relationship.

“Britain and the United States have an enduring and special relationship based on the values of freedom, democracy and enterprise,” May said. “We are, and will remain, strong and close partners on trade, security and defense.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Trump a “true friend of the State of Israel.” He further believes the two “will continue to strengthen the unique alliance between our two countries and bring it to ever greater heights.”

Peña Nieto, the president of Mexico, expressed willingness to work with Trump in a brief tweet.

“I congratulate the USA on its electoral process and I reiterate to Donald Trump our willingness to work together in support of bilateral relations,” Nieto said.
