Bernie Sanders put the blame on Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party for losing the election.

On Monday, Sanders appeared on “The View” and said that one of the reasons Donald Trump won the election is because the “working class of this country didn’t believe” Clinton would fight for them and Trump connected with those people.  (RELATED: Rank And File Union Members In The Rust Belt Propelled Trump To The White House)

“I think what happened is Trump touched a nerve on the part of millions of people that media doesn’t often talk about,” Sanders told the ladies of “The View”. “You got a middle class for the last 40 years that has been shrinking . You got millions of people living in extraordinary economic anxiety and meanwhile the very richest people and largest corporations are doing phenomenally well.” (RELATED: Sanders Praises Trump, Is Prepared To Work With Him)

“And people are saying all over this country, black and white and Latino, what about me,” he added. “Who’s gonna stand up for me? And in my view the Democratic Party has not been as strong as it should be at saying, ‘we are gonna stand with the working people.'”

“I think it is fair to say that the working class of this country didn’t believe that she [Clinton] was prepared to stand up and fight for them,” he continued. “Even if her policies were.”

Sanders did concede that the news that broke a week before the election about FBI Director James Comey re-opening the investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server also contributed to her stunning loss.

“I think what the FBI did was unacceptable,” Sanders responded. “They got involved in a presidential election in an unprecedented way. I think that’s wrong and that hurt Clinton.”
