George And Laura Bush Adopt Rescue Puppy Named Freddy

Former President George W. Bush announced on Instagram that he and his wife Laura have adopted a puppy from a local animal shelter. The adorable puppy is named Freddy Bush.

The former president said, “we visited the @spcatexas’ Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center last Tuesday to thank them for their great work- and came home with a puppy.”

Freddy is the newest addition to the Bush pet family, which includes cats Bob and Bernadette.

Bush dogs Barney and Miss Beazley in 2013 and 2014, both of Lymphoma. The two famous first dog’s were both Scottish Terriers, and blood relatives. The two dogs were the subjects of many White House photos and cards, and even had a website, Barney.gov.

The Bush’s had another first dog, Spotty, that lived from 1989 through President Bush’s first term until 2004, who was the daughter of their dog Millie. India, “Willie,” a black cat, lived from 1990 until 2009.

Bushes said in the Instagram post, “If you could use a little extra joy in your life, consider adopting a pet from an animal shelter or rescue group.”
