North Korean researchers and medical scientists are boasting they have cured obesity, according to state media.
The North needs an additional 700,000 tons of food that it doesn’t have to feed its people this year, but the leadership is apparently unaffected by the growing the famine. Kim Jong-un has swelled to almost 300 pounds due to his love of wine and cheese.
Obesity is not a pressing issue for North Korean society, 70 percent of which is suffering from “chronic food insecurity and malnutrition.” Nonetheless, scientists claim they have created a “Golden Pill Against Obesity,” NK News revealed.
The pill allows a person to lose weight without making lifestyle adjustments or exercising. “As it decreases the body-weight and the thickness of subcutaneous fat without applying any diet or exercise cure, the pill is believed to be superior to existing remedies of obesity or foreign pills or other means of treatment,” an article published by a state-media outlet read.
North Korea launched a “strong and prosperous campaign” in 2012, which provided increased domestic support for scientific research and development — the achievements are highly suspect.
Pyongyang regularly claims to make amazing medical breakthroughs.
North Korean scientists said this summer they had invented cures for AIDS, Ebola and cancer. Along with these miraculous achievements, the North also claims to have cured MERS and developed a type of alcohol that will not generate a hangover the next day.
The North did, however, manage to create an effective form of Viagra.
If North Korea has managed to produce an obesity pill, there is a strong possibility that the product is simply weight loss medication.
The problem with North Korean research is that the claims are rarely supported by published results, and there is no way for foreign experts to test them, NK News noted.
It is unclear what the North has produced, but if it is a legitimate pill capable of combating obesity, Kim Jong-un should probably start a regimen as soon as possible.
A few years ago, Kim was reportedly diagnosed with gout, a disease typically caused by weight gain and the consumption of rich foods.
