German Chancellor Angela Merkel has decided to pursue a fourth term as chancellor, a senior member of her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) said Tuesday.

Merkel has remained undecided on whether or not she would remain as head of CDU for next year’s election. Her open-door immigration policies have been unpopular among voters, and coalition partners have been rumored to push for new leadership.

Norbert Röttgen, a senior member of parliament, told CNN Merkel has made her decision.

“She is determined, willing and ready to contribute to strengthen the international liberal order,” Röttgen said. “She will run and act as a responsible leader.”

A spokesman from Merkel’s office said an official announcement on whether or not she will run will be made “at the suitable time.”

Merkel took office in 2005 and was re-elected in 2009 and 2013. Populist party Alternative fur Deutschland is expected to shake up the political map by taking the parliament for the first time in the upcoming election.

Merkel’s approval rating plummeted to a five-year low in September but has since gone up.

Rupert Wiederwald, political commentator for Deutsche Welle, said Röttgen’s announcement is “clearly” a reaction to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s surprising election feat.
