House Freedom Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan said it’s unlikely he will seek another term as chairman of the powerful conservative group.

Despite having the support of his colleagues to stay in his role, the Ohio Republican said he will most likely hand the reigns over to one of the other members.

“Probably not, it’s a one year term, I’ve already done two,” he told The Daily Caller News Foundation Thursday.

North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows is largely projected to be Jordan’s successor, having said he plans to seek the position if Jordan opts to step aside.

“If he’s willing to do that he’ll have my 100 percent support, and if not, then certainly I’d throw my hat in the ring,” he told TheDCNF Tuesday.

If Jordan remains in his role, a new position — such as a vice chairmanship — would likely be created for Meadows, HFC spokeswoman Alyssa Farah previously told TheDCNF.

The group has been a powerful force since its start in 2015, having placed significant pressure on leadership to pursue lower spending levels and budget cuts.

During Jordan’s tenure, the group has been credited with ousting former House Speaker John Boehner and temporarily killing the Export-Import bank.

The HFC is slated to choose its leader in December.
