WASHINGTON—House minority leader Nancy Pelosi could not think of a reason for why President Barack Obama should pardon Hillary Clinton.

“I don’t even know about that. Pardon her for what? I don’t have the faintest idea what you’re talking about. I mean I just don’t know,” Pelosi responded to The Daily Caller on the issue. “I don’t know what he would pardon her for. For what? I’m sorry. That just doesn’t make any sense to me.”

Democratic activist Jesse Jackson called on Obama Thursday to preemptively pardon Clinton for any illegal acts she may have committed.

“Secretary Clinton has not been legally accused, indicted, tried or convicted of anything,” he said in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Wednesday. “It would be a monumental, moral and political mistake to pursue the prosecution of Hillary Clinton.”

Jackson added, “President Obama should follow President Ford’s example and offer a preemptive full pardon,” citing President Gerald Ford’s pardon of President Richard Nixon in 1974 after the Watergate scandal.

Donald Trump went after the FBI for not appropriately pursuing an indictment against Clinton following its investigation of the former secretary of state for mishandling classified information on a private server.

Since his campaign ended, Trump appears to have distanced himself from the issue.

“It’s not something I’ve given a lot of thought, because I want to solve healthcare, jobs, border control, tax reform,” he told The Wall Street Journal when asked about prosecuting Clinton.

FBI Director James Comey closed the investigation of Clinton two different times after suggesting to the Justice Department that an indictment should not happen.
