Kanye West announced he would have voted for President-elect Donald Trump during a California concert Thursday night.

During his performance, West declared that while he didn’t vote during the presidential election, he “would have voted for Trump,” reports CNN.

“This is about the idea of a black guy liking Trump. They thought they had me because … just because I was black or just because I was a celebrity,” West continued. “But Trump is our president. And that would’ve been my vote, so I feel right.”

West previously had met with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, a moment that was documented by a selfie he and wife Kim Kardashian West took. West also donated $1,000 to President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign.

West insisted his “vote” for Trump did not mean he turned his back on his political beliefs.

“[Voting for Trump] don’t mean that I don’t think that black lives matter, that don’t mean I don’t believe in women’s rights, that don’t mean that I don’t believe in gay marriage,” he said.

Some concertgoers booed West’s announcement; others took to Twitter to express their disappointment.
