President-elect Donald Trump has offered Ben Carson the top job in the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The offer was first reported by The Associated Press, citing a source close to the matter. Carson ran against Trump in the Republican presidential primary before bowing out of the race March 4.

The offer marks a rapid about-face from just a week ago, when Carson announced he wasn’t interested in a cabinet role due to his lack of political experience. But on Sunday, Carson said he would consider a post if Trump offered one anyway, and Trump then said via Twitter he was strongly considering Carson for HUD.

Choosing Carson to lead HUD is unconventional, to say the least, because Carson has no real experience in the field. Prior to the election, Carson was more frequently put forth as a possible surgeon general or secretary of health and human services.

HUD’s mission involves promoting the availability of affordable housing across the U.S., and the enforcement of anti-discrimination laws related to housing.

According to the AP, Carson will make a final decision on accepting Trump’s offer over the Thanksgiving holiday.
