The 31 -year-old man arrested Monday as a suspect in the murder of a Texas cop explained that he had been angry due to issues stemming from a custody battle.

Police arrested Otis McKane for the murder of San Antonio detective Benjamin Marconi, reports Reuters.

As officers escorted McKane out of the police building, McKane tried to explain his actions. He told reporters that he “lashed out” in anger over a custody battle.

“Society not allowing me to see my son. I lashed out at somebody who didn’t deserve it. I’ve been through several custody battles and I was upset at the situation I was in,” McKane said, while not admitting to the murder of Marconi.
He added an “I’m sorry” when reporters asked if there was anything he wanted to say to the officer’s family.
Marconi was gunned down while trying to issue a traffic ticket late Sunday morning. As he sat inside his squad car writing up the ticket, a black car pulled up beside him. (RELATED: Four Police Officers Shot Throughout The Country In 24 Hour Period.)
The driver exited the vehicle, walked up to Marconi’s car window and shot him twice. Marconi was later pronounced dead at the San Antonio Military Medical Center.
“I am still convinced that he was targeting blue — targeting a San Antonio Police Department officer, no matter who it was. It was any officer he came across,” Police Chief William McManus declared.
Police apprehended McKane by using a photo of the suspect’s car and surveillance video, police said. Authorities said that McKane was arrested while in a car with a woman and two year old child.
The surveillance video showed McKane walking back and forth outside police headquarters four hours before the shooting occurred. Someone let him in and he talked to someone over an intercom, according to authorities.
About twenty seconds later, he exited the building.
Marconi’s family thanked the community at large for the love and encouragement they had been given in the wake of his death.
