Police are hunting for suspects after two shootings killed one and injured another just blocks apart in Washington, D.C., Tuesday night.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to the first shooting at roughly 8:40 p.m. on 22nd Street, Southeast near Buena Vista. Police found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds laying unconscious on the sidewalk. Authorities took the unidentified man to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his wounds, reports The Washington Post.

Hours later at roughly 4:30 a.m., police responded to a second shooting just blocks away from the earlier incident on 23rd Street, Southeast. Officers with the MPD found a man with a gunshot wound and transported him to a local hospital. The unidentified man’s condition is unknown.

Police have not released information on any suspects or potential persons of interests in either shooting, but said they do not believe the incidents are related.

The homicide rate in the District spiked 54 percent in 2015, and is 19 percent lower so far this year. D.C. is suffering a violent year overall, with 121 homicides across the city. The homicide rate is down from the shocking numbers in 2015, but is still historically high. There were a total of 105 homicides in 2014 and 88 in 2012.
