Republicans are thrilled Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi beat Ohio Democrat Rep. Tim Ryan in the race to hold onto her leadership post Wednesday, with a number saying her continuation of power will help keep the GOP in the majority.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy — who told reporters Tuesday her continuation of past policies, like keeping the current staff at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in place after the party’s devastating election results Nov. 8, would only further her party’s losing streak — congratulated his Democratic colleague on her win.

“Congratulations to Nancy, this only helps from so many different perspectives,” he told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “I don’t want to get into the Democrat’s race, but yeah, a lot of people on the Republican side were rooting for her.”

The National Republican Congressional Committee, which trolled Pelosi by endorsing her over Ryan ahead of the election, also applauded her victory, hanging a sign outside their headquarters near Capitol Hill.

Pelosi won with 134 votes to Ryan’s 63, a much smaller margin than her past leadership races.

Critics of Pelosi argued the party needed new leaders if it wants to remain relevant in the future.
