Democratic Missouri Rep. Emanuel Cleaver told MSNBC’s Craig Melvin Thursday that based on Nancy Pelosi’s re-election as House Minority Leader, the Democratic party clearly has “no strategy” or “plan” for winning back both voter support and congressional seats.

“If we had elected new leaders to come in, just think, they would’ve been elected yesterday, and they would’ve had hardly any time to do anything except move into a new office,” Cleaver posed to Melvin. “At the present time, I have got to say we have no strategy, and we have no plan. At least we have some proven leadership that can take us into what’s going to be a new era.”

“Think about this,” he continued. “We cannot have as our plan to go to the floor for the next two years only to hit a ceiling. That’s not a plan, that’s not a strategy.”

“It’s time for us to bring in younger people to leadership, in fact if we don’t, it could spell the demise of the Democratic caucus.”
