Van Jones stopped by Hugh Hewitt’s radio show Friday morning, and the two political pundits fiercely debated the idea that Donald Trump exploited white supremacy to win the 2016 election.

Jones argued that both parties have serious identity problems, which they refuse to recognize, that led to Donald Trump’s upset victory over Hillary Clinton.

The Democrats, he explained, “have allowed a home for some of the most elitist, snobbiest, obnoxious, condescending people ever born in our party,” but the Republicans “have also created a space for a bunch of bigots to come in the back door, and they won’t admit it.”

Hewitt spent the rest of the interview show how Jones’ point is not “factually predicated.”

LISTEN:

“What percentage, what percentage do you believe of the Trump vote is white supremacist?” Hewitt posed to Jones. “What percentage?”

Jones answered that the number of “like outright, we hate black people” racists in the GOP is “probably less than one percent.”

“It’s way less than one percent,” Hewitt clarified.

Jones countered, saying that the conservative radio host was “doing exactly what the Democrats do” in normalizing an internal-party problem, but Hewitt swept that argument aside with simple math.

“The one percent rule with the Democrats is a problem,” he explained. “There are real Fidel lovers in your party. There aren’t a real number of racists in our party…It goes to the moral compass of the parties. Mine is fine. Yours is broken.”

“There are not 600,000 white racists in America,” Hewitt added. “They put on a party at the Reagan building, got 200 people, Van.”

The interview ended with Hewitt inviting Jones back on the show to continue the conversation at a later date.

“I love Van Jones,” he stated. “He’s just wrong. He’s just wrong, America.”
