Obama Has Failed: Gitmo Will Remain Open

It was one of Obama’s first actions as president: On Jan. 22, 2009, his seat barely warm, he signed an executive order to close down Guantanamo Bay “no later than one year from now.”

What a great moment in U.S. history that was. Hey, how did that whole deal work out?

Keith Koffler, Washington Examiner:

President Obama has thrown in the towel on his long-sought goal of closing the Guantanamo Bay prison.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest Wednesday acknowledged that the prison, which houses some of the worst terrorism suspects apprehended by the United States, will not close before Obama leaves office.

Obama has done what he can to release as many terrorists as possible back onto the battlefield — Welcome home, Bowe Bergdahl! — but he just couldn’t shut down the whole thing. He didn’t keep his promise. He let down his adoring acolytes. Just like the shouts of “Yes We Can,” just like his youthful appearance, Obama’s dream of closing Gitmo is gone forever.

And now, all the people screaming about “obstructionism” because they didn’t get what they want will turn right around and do their best to obstruct what President Trump wants. Obama will cheer them on. On the other side of the aisle, a lot of people who’ve claimed to oppose an “imperial presidency” for the past eight years will be cheering Trump on. That’s how it works.

No one man should have all that power… unless he’s on our team.

Look on the bright side, Barry. You didn’t get what you wanted, and that hurts your feelings. But consider all the human lives that have been created or saved over the past eight years because we weren’t hit with even more Islamic terrorist attacks.

On behalf of all those grateful Americans: Congratulations on your great failure, Mr. President!
