Van Jones Doesn’t Get Why The Woman Who Lost To Obama Also Lost To Trump

I have this theory I’m working on. It’s an attempt to explain why Hillary Clinton keeps losing elections. I call it the “People Just Don’t Like Hillary Clinton” theory. Sure, it sounds crazy, but I think it explains a lot of what we’ve seen over the past 8-9 years.

Van Jones has a different theory. You probably missed the following moment on CNN Tuesday night, because it was on CNN. But Madeleine Weast at the Washington Free Beacon has captured it for posterity:

“But you are a woman, and you are a Democratic woman! And Hillary Clinton, as best I can tell, is a woman! I don’t get it!”

“She did her job in making me not want to vote for Trump… but she did not do her job in showing me why I should vote for her.”

And Van Jones is utterly flabbergasted.

Unless I’m misremembering, Hillary Clinton was a woman in 2008 too. Back then, did Van Jones go around asking women why they didn’t vote for Hillary? Maybe he did, I don’t know.

Or maybe “black” is higher than “woman” on the Identity Politics Pyramid.

It really does baffle these guys that a human being is more than just a series of boxes to check off. When I’m deciding how to vote, I look at the candidates as individuals. I judge them by their words and actions, not what they look like or whether they’ve ever been capable of childbirth. I know I can’t trust any of them, regardless of race or gender or anything else. But can I live with ’em?

Hillary didn’t lose because she’s a woman. She lost because she’s an even worse human being than Donald Trump. It was a battle for who’s less loathsome, and she came in second.

I honestly thought the Democrats and the media (pardon the redundancy) were going to drag her across the finish line. Whatever reservations I have about President-elect Trump, and I have plenty, I’m glad we’re not stuck with the alternative. At least she lost.

And reactions like this are just the icing on the great big schadenfreude cake. Thanks, Van Jones!
