Photos of Barack Obama working out at the gym while he is on vacation in Hawaii surfaced Wednesday.
Though the president didn’t allow the press pool that is covering him inside of the facility at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii — they hung out at nearby McDonald’s instead — other fitness enthusiasts posted photos of him getting his reps in.
A member of the press who is in Hawaii found the photos on Instagram.
Obama, who once said he used to smoke seven or eight cigarettes a day, said there wasn’t a “dramatic moment” when he quit.
“Michelle had been putting pressure on me for a while,” Obama told Men’s Health in 2008. “I was never really a heavy smoker. Probably at my peak I was smoking seven or eight a day. More typical was three.”
“So it wasn’t a huge challenge with huge withdrawal symptoms. There have been a couple of times during the campaign when I fell off the wagon and bummed one, and I had to kick it again. But I figure, seeing as I’m running for president, I need to cut myself a little slack.”
