President-elect Donald Trump took a definitive step towards extricating himself from potential conflicts of interest while serving as president Saturday, announcing his plans to dissolve the Donald J. Trump Foundation.

Trump said in a Saturday press release that while his foundation has done “enormous good works over the years in contributing millions of dollars to countless worthy groups,” he plans to close the charitable foundation in order to, “avoid even the appearance of any conflict with my role as President.”

“I will be devoting so much time and energy to the Presidency and solving the many problems facing our country and the world, I don’t want to allow good work to be associated with a possible conflict of interest,” Trump said.

He assured the public that even though his foundation is shutting its doors, he plans “to pursue my strong interest in philanthropy in other ways.”

The president-elect tweeted out Friday that his son Eric would also be closing his charitable foundation to avoid possible conflict of interest allegations.

Trump’s family is making moves to distance itself from anything that might raise red flags. His daughter, Ivanka, had a 45-minute coffee meeting that was to be auctioned off last Friday canceled due to the possibility it might raise eyebrows. Trump’s eldest sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, have both distanced themselves from Eric’s foundation, dedicated to raising money for children with cancer.
