Senate Democrats held a press conference Wednesday to show their support for President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare legislation, as House and Senate Republicans gear up to “repeal and replace” Obamacare, according to reports.

Senate Republicans took the first steps towards dismantling Obamacare Tuesday afternoon, filing a budget resolution that puts the wheels in motion for actually overhauling the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Congressional Democrats responded with a press conference Wednesday, unwittingly revealing one of the major roadblocks in their fight to save Obamacare. Namely, Democratic senators in Republican states want to distance themselves from Obamacare.

More than a handful of senators up for reelection in states that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton lost in 2016 were not present at the press conference. Of those absent, were: Bill Nelson, Joe Donnelly, Claire McCaskill, Jon Tester, Sherrod Brown, Heidi Heitkamp, Bob Casey, and Joe Manchin, America Rising reports.

Others who represent states that Clinton lost were willing to risk voter backlash, including Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Tammy Baldwin. Two of the most notable senators present at the conference were Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Democratic Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer claims that his political views are “exactly the same” as those of Warren and Sanders, he said Tuesday. (RELATED: 3 Ways Obama Could Save Obamacare In His Final Days)
