Former Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush decided not to attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, according to a Wednesday report from the Tampa Bay Times.
The former Florida governor won’t join his brother, former President George W. Bush, and sister-in-law, former First Lady Laura Bush, at the inauguration. The report mentioned the last inauguration Jeb attended was former President Ronald Reagan’s, when his father was sworn in as vice president.
Jeb ran against Trump in the heavily contested Republican primary, and lost what some believe would be an easy nomination for Bush. He was a vocal opponent of the president-elect throughout the general election, but approved of several of Trump’s picks for the administration.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, EPA head Scott Pruitt, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, and Labor Secretary Andy Puzder all supported Jeb during the Republican primary. The former Florida governor came out in favor of these Trump picks in December.
“Congratulations on your victory @realDonaldTrump. As our President, Columba and I will pray for you in the days and months to come,” Jeb wrote on his official Twitter account days after Trump won the election in November.
