Mexican authorities are searching for the perpetrator responsible for shooting a U.S. consulate official in the city of Guadalajara Friday.

Mexico’s Attorney General’s office noted the official was wounded in the attack. It is unclear who the perpetrator is, and whether or not they are linked to the Jalisco New Generation cartel which is known to dominate the area around the city.

A surveillance video recording taken at the scene of the crime shows the gunman following the unnamed U.S. official into a garage, meaning the attack was likely intentional. The video shows the gunman firing a shot into the official’s windshield as he exits the garage in his vehicle. The victim is reported to be in “stable” condition and under protection at a local hospital.

The FBI is offering $20,000 for information on the shooter.

“The safety and security of our employees overseas is among our highest priorities,” an embassy spokeswoman who was not authorized to be quoted by name told The Associated Press. “We are working closely with Mexican law enforcement in this matter.”

Guadalajara, Mexico’s second largest city, is located in the western Jalisco state. The State Department did not have a travel warning out for Guadalajara, though Mexican gangs and cartels have targeted U.S. officials before.
