Sen. Lindsey Graham accused NAACP President Cornell Brooks of playing politics with the NAACP’s lawmakers scorecard, which evaluates the strength of members of Congress on civil rights issues.

Brooks was giving testimony in connection with the Senate Committee on the Judiciary’s consideration of Sen. Jeff Sessions’ nomination to serve as attorney general.

The senator compared the scores of Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Committee on the Judiciary on the NAACP’s legislative scorecard. Committee Democrats scored extremely high on the evaluation, while Republicans scored considerably lower.

“Isn’t it kind of odd that one party gets 100 percent but nobody else does very well on our side?” the senator asked.

WATCH:

“It means that you’re picking things that conservative Republicans don’t agree with you on and liberal Democrats do,” Graham said. “I hope that doesn’t make us all racist.”

The NAACP opposes Sessions’ confirmation as attorney general.
