Hang onto your hats, everybody. I’ve heard some crazy stuff in my time, but a guy killing a bunch of people and then claiming he did it in the name of Islam? That doesn’t sound right to me!

Boris Sanchez and Kevin Conlon, CNN:

Esteban Santiago, the man charged with killing five people at the Fort Lauderdale airport, told FBI agents he carried out the attack on behalf of ISIS, FBI special agent Michael Ferlazzo testified at Santiago’s bond hearing Tuesday…

Ferlazzo, who conducted the interview, said only that Santiago claimed to be fighting for ISIS and that he’d been in touch with like-minded people via jihadi chat rooms who were planning attacks as well.

Okay, whatever. People claim lots of things. But what was Santiago’s motive?

Presumably he’s an NRA member, or at least he’s heard of it. Why isn’t the FBI pursuing that angle? Do we know which Republicans he voted for? Does he have any blood relatives who are white? Has he ever eaten at Chick-fil-A? Give us something!

I just hope somebody is checking in on the Muslim community in Ft. Lauderdale. They must be bracing themselves for the inevitable backlash that somehow will never end up happening. As always, the real victims aren’t the people who were murdered, but rather the people who might get dirty looks or other microaggressions at the grocery store.

Oh, and when they give Santiago the death penalty, that will be racist. Thanks a lot, Donald Trump.
