CNN hired Valerie Jarrett’s daughter Laura Jarrett to cover the Trump Justice Department, a Thursday press release announced. Her mother served in Obama’s White House as a senior adviser for both terms.

According to Jarret’s CNN bio page, the younger Jarrett, who graduated from Harvard law in 2010, “worked as a litigation attorney in Chicago. In private practice, Jarrett focused on defending companies and individuals in government investigations brought by the Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as complex commercial litigation.”

Although having no previous journalism experience, Jarrett began at CNN in September. The New York Post notes that Jarrett was “quietly hired” by CNN.

Her stories range from the “treatment of black lawmakers” during Sen. Jeff Sessions Attorney General confirmation hearings to asking if Trump “can send American citizens to Guantanamo Bay.”
