President Donald Trump vowed to eradicate radical Islamic terrorism in his inaugural address Friday, in a major departure from the Obama administration.

Trump repeatedly criticized President Barack Obama and his opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for refusing to say the phrase “radical Islam.” Both Obama and Clinton frequently used the term “radical jihadism,” saying that conflating terrorism with Islam was insulting and could itself lend propaganda to terrorist groups like the Islamic State.

Trump has previously indicated he is open to “working” with Russia inside Syria, to target the ISIS’s capital of Raqqa. Trump also declared that his guiding principle in domestic and foreign policy will be framed by the idea of “America First.”
