Donald Trump’s first tweets as president were sent less an hour after he took the oath of office Friday, and came from his personal @realDonaldTrump account, not the official White House @POTUS account.

It appears Trump will use the same account he tweeted from during the campaign, at least initially, than switch to the account set up by the White House in 2015. (RELATED: Trump Says His Twitter Account Will Continue To Get Around The ‘Dishonest’ Press)

The POTUS account, like WhiteHouse.gov, switched over from the Obama administration’s control to the Trump team. The tweets were likely pre-loaded and posted by Trump’s incoming White House staff, as the new president is still involved with inauguration activities.

Trump’s first tweets echoed the populist message from his inaugural address, emphasizing that he intends to put power back into the hands of the people.

Trump tweeted that no Americans will be forgotten.

Trump repeated the maxim that will guide policy making in his administration: Buy American and hire American.

Meanwhile, the @POTUS account remains unused, but has already gained nearly 4 million followers in the hour since the control switched over to Trump’s team.
