Nobel Prize winning economist and New York Times contributor Paul Krugman took shots at President Donald Trump on Twitter Tuesday, calling the mental health of the president into question.
Krugman tweeted at 3:34 a.m. Monday morning that Americans are witnessing for the first time, “a president who was obviously mentally ill the moment he took office.”
The economist attributed Trump’s victory to the FBI’s director, adding, “Thanks, Comey,” to the end of the tweet. Krugman publicly criticized Comey in October, arguing that his letter to Congress regarding the Clinton email investigation swung the election in Trump’s favor.

Krugman has repeatedly lambasted the president since he defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Krugman’s numerous columns in The New York Times question Trump’s trade policies, his campaign appointments, his preparedness to serve as president, and even the legitimacy of his election. The Nobel Prize winner even previously went so far as to insinuate Trump is a liar.
He also went on a Twitter tirade Monday, continuing his criticisms of Trump’s trade policies and attempting to delegitimize claims that Trump is the reason for recent gains of the U.S. dollar.
Quick note on trade: nothing Trump does will be remotely as important as the widening spread between US and ROW long-term interest rates 1/ pic.twitter.com/ZLcNQBywEe

Krugman also called on Americans to continue to “pounding on Trump’s lies and infantile behavior.”
