The American people liked President Donald Trump’s inauguration speech a lot more than the media did.

A new Politico/Morning Consult poll shows that a majority of Americans approved of Trump’s Inauguration Day rhetoric.

Forty-nine percent of those polled said it was either excellent or good, and 51 percent said the speech was “optimistic.” Forty-six percent thought it was a “presidential” speech and another 44 percent thought it was “inspiring.” Thirty-nine percent said it was a fair or poor speech.

This heavily contradicts the consensus of mainstream media. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow called it “militant.” CNN called it “radical” and “dark.” Vanity Fair also called it “dark.”

A whopping 65 percent polled said they liked Trump’s “America first” message. Sixty-one percent stand behind Trump’s assertion that the federal government should “buy American and hire American.”

The poll was conducted between Jan. 20 and Jan. 22 and surveyed 1,922 registered voters. The margin of error was plus or minus two percent.
