President Donald Trump wants Florida Gov. Rick Scott to run against Florida Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson in the upcoming 2018 midterms.

According to Politico, Scott, an early and loyal Trump supporter, talk frequently on the phone and their conversations include the Senate race.

“We need you in the Senate. We need business guys like you,” Trump told Scott in a recent phone call, a source familiar with the conversation told Politico. The individual also said that that Trump hinted he would help Scott raise money for such a Senate campaign.

Scott, a self-made millionaire, has been a top contender for the seat, as he cannot run for another term as Florida’s governor. However he does face a tough uphill battle against Nelson, according to a Gravis Marketing poll released in late November, The Naples Daily News reported.

The poll of 3,250 registered Florida voters shows Nelson leading Scott 51 to 38 percent in a head-to head matchup, with 11 percent undecided. The poll has a margin of plus or minus 2.3 percentage points.
