Matthew McConaughey: Trump Is The President

In 2017 America, the worst thing you can do is concede to reality. Let alone embrace it!

Paulina Firozi, The Hill:

In an interview with the BBC’s “Andrew Marr Show” this week, host Andrew Marr compared the characters in McConaughey’s new movie “Gold” to “not Trump’s America, but this is small-time, central redneck America sticking one up to the snotty East Coast and the elites.”

He then asked McConaughey if it was time for Hollywood to give the president a break.

“They don’t have a choice now,” McConaughey answered. “He’s our president. It’s very dynamic and as divisive of a time and inauguration as we’ve had, at the same time, it’s time for us to embrace. Shake hands with this fact, be constructive with him over the next four years.”

The Hill, and others, are framing this as: “McConaughey says we should all embrace Trump.” But that’s not what he said. He said we should embrace the facts. Shake hands with reality. Because it’s not going away just because you want it to. This is happening. This is real life. Eventually you’ll need to deal with it, and the longer you persist in your denial, the longer it’s going to take your poor broken brain to heal. You don’t have to like it, but that’s life.

Punching people and destroying things, and publishing all sorts of crazy unsourced stories that confirm your biases, all that stuff might help you feel better right now. But you’re only hurting yourselves. You’re only helping the people you claim to oppose.

Alright? Alright, alright, alright.
