The Daily Dealer has long been a fan of the Amazon Tap, which we have repeatedly called “the most secure Alexa product.” Judging by the device’s lagging sales, we were the only ones who liked the idea of an Alexa device that didn’t record every single word you said.

Amazon seems to have heard the complaints of those who wanted a portable Alexa speaker that does not require one to physically touch (or “tap”) the device every time he wanted to make a command. The company just announced a software update that allows you to instruct your Amazon Tap merely by saying the wake word “Alexa.”

Amazon Tap, Alexa-Enabled Portable Bluetooth Speaker — $129.99

Will this newest feature make the Amazon Tap anywhere near as popular as the Amazon Echo or Echo Dot? That remains to be seen. But at $130, it is certainly cheaper than the $180 Echo, and the fact that it is portable is still a plus. Stay tuned.
