Donald Trump dapped up Shinzo Abe upon the Japanese Prime Minister’s arrival at the White House Friday afternoon, an act which appeared to confuse MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell.

“As you noted,” she explained to her audience. “With that warm greeting was a double hug and two hands on a handshake.”

“That was a very warm personal greeting,” Mitchell continued. “When you say, Peter, that the president hasn’t in the past, this president [has greeted] two foreign leaders [upon arrival].”

“Obviously what we mean is in the past that presidents usually don’t come out to greet their foreign guests. This is certainly a gesture of respect in the Trump style as we see it evolving.”
