Ruth Marcus thought it was a smart idea to go on CNN and say something very dumb about smartphones Thursday afternoon.

The Washington Post columnist was explaining “one of the most interesting moments” from President Trump’s Thursday press conference when she dealt the, “no, old people DO understand technology” argument a near-fatal blow.

“You know they used to say don’t pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel?” Marcus posed to host Jake Tapper. “Don’t pick a fight with people who have Google on their smartphones.”

Marcus added that Trump “completely folded when Peter Alexander challenged him on his magnificent electoral college land slide.”

“I thought it was actually a really interesting lesson for us in the media in the future in terms of being able to challenge him,” she continued. “You have to have the information right there to say that, you’ve done this at times, to say that’s not right, because sometimes when confronted with facts he just disputes them.”

It should be noted that Marcus stopped short of saying Trump should be wary of reporters carrying Walk Men or Tamagotchis.
