Back in the ’70s, director Roman Polanski was convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl. Rather than serve jail time for his crime, he fled the country and hasn’t set foot on U.S. soil since. Now he wants everybody to forget about it.

TMZ:

Roman Polanski will make a move next week to return to the U.S. and end his child rape case for good, without serving additional jail time.

Polanski’s famed lawyer, Harland Braun, has asked an L.A. County Superior Court judge to unseal a long-secret transcript of the testimony of the prosecutor in the Polanski case.

Braun believes the secret testimony supports Polanski’s claim that he cut a deal to serve only 48 days behind bars for raping a 13-year-old girl in 1977, and the judge signed off.

Now Polanski wants to come back, time served, that’ll be the end of it. Never mind, everybody.

How about no? Polanski ran, rather than face the consequences of his crime. He didn’t think the law applied to him. He still doesn’t think so. His wealth and fame and genius place him above such earthly annoyances.

If he wants to come back here, he should be locked up.

Just this week, a lot of lefties expressed outrage that Mel Gibson is being sought out to direct the sequel to Suicide Squad. (I think it’s a bad idea too, but only because it’ll be bad for his resurgent career.) And all Mel did was say some ugly stuff. He didn’t rape anybody. He didn’t flee justice for decades. He’s just an asshole. In a town full of them! Yet the same people who are yelling at Mel are also standing up for Roman Polanski.

Convicted pedophiles should serve their time. Maybe that’s just me.
