Florida Gov. Bashes Fellow Republicans In Robocall Campaign [VIDEO]

Florida Gov. Rick Scott sent out robocalls bashing fellow Republicans, according to a Friday report from Politico.

Nine Florida Republicans backed a bill that would essentially remove the state’s tourism board based on the runaway government spending associated with the department. Scott quickly sprung into action, launching campaigns against each state representative paid for with his “Let’s get to work” committee.

“Unfortunately, your state Rep., Paul Renner, is playing politics with Florida’s jobs. He voted to kill our state’s tourism and jobs program and that will destroy our economy and will lead to higher taxes,” Scott said in the recording.

“Florida relies on our tourism industry not just for jobs but to finance our state government, including our schools,” Scott continues. “I’m asking you to take action now and tell your Rep. he can’t vote again to kill Florida jobs.”

Republican state House Speaker Richard Corcoran published a video on YouTube criticizing the agency for questionable spending tactics, citing a secret $1 million contract with Miami singer and rapper Pitbull, as well as a $20 million deal to a special effects studio that went out of business.

Although Scott is unable to run for reelection as Florida’s governor due to term limits, he plans to challenge Sen. Bill Nelson in 2018; he currently trails behind the incumbent in early polling. Scott claims to have a great jobs record, and the proposed legislation could damage that reputation ahead of the Senate race.
