Bill Kristol — speaking with Steve Malzberg Monday — said he’s not surprised by President Donald Trump’s decision not to attend the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“I myself have been boycotting it for the last 10 years,” the Weekly Standard editor stated. “Not really boycotting, I just don’t like it so I decide not to go, so I’m glad to have him onboard.”

“It’s such a ridiculous show, it’s prom for nerds,” he added. “Basically you just have everyone dressed up, oohing and aahing at the Hollywood types. There once really was a dinner for White House correspondents to socialize with people who worked in the administration, whom normally you’re seeing in a business context.”

“The whole thing is staged. It’s a show. It’s just not worth it.”
