Sean Spicer confirmed there will be an investigation into the raid that resulted in the death of Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer William Owens.

“First of all, I can’t possibly imagine what he’s going through, in terms of the loss of a son,” he stated in response to an interview with Owens’ father, Bill, gave over the weekend. “I can tell him that on behalf of the president, his son died a hero and the information that he was able to help obtain through that raid, as I’ve said before, is going to save American lives. It’s going to protect our country more.” (RELATED: Father Of Slain SEAL Wants Investigation Into His Son’s Death)

“He made a sacrifice to this country,” Spicer continued. “He was on his 12th deployment, and I know that his wife, when she spoke to the president, knows that he did this because he loved it. He cared about our nation, and the mission was successful in helping prevent a future attack or attacks on this nation.”

The White House press secretary maintained that, in an information gathering capacity, the mission was a success but added that the Department of Defense will carry out “what they call a 15-6 review.”

“That review in this case is three-pronged because there was a fatality and loss of life, there’s that, because there were civilians involved, that’s another, and third is because hardware — a helicopter that was damaged.”
