The buyers of a vacant home in Houston, Texas were shocked to discover they had a third roommate, after finding human remains that allegedly belong to a woman who went missing in 2015.

Tucked away in the “Heights,” neighborhood of Houston, the 1,161-square foot two-story bungalow is located at 610 Allston St. After shifting a board in the attic, the new homeowners found skeletal remains, a rag, and a pair of red glasses. The remains appear to belong to 61-year-old Mary Cerruti, a long-time tenant of the neighborhood and a woman known for sporting a pair of red eyeglasses.

The 61-year-old purchased the home on Alston Street in 2001, and was reportedly holding onto the property in protest of high-rise apartments slated to be built around her property. Out of the blue, neighbors report that Cerruti vanished, leaving no trace of where she might be.

As mail piled up at her door and the state of the property became more and more disheveled, Cerruti’s neighbors grew concerned for her well-being. Neighbors contacted the Houston Police Department and one even hired a private investigator to figure out what happened to Miss Cerruti, the Houston Chronicle reports. Police issued a missing persons report, but nothing ever came of it.

After Cerruti stopped making mortgage payments on the home, it was foreclosed on in March 2015. Inside the home, cleaners found a few dead cats, but no sign of human remains.

Authorities are currently investigating whether the person in question died of natural causes, or foul play. “Was she killed and stuffed in the wall, or did they accidentally pass away by ending up in the wall?” Houston Police Detective Jason Fay rhetorically asked reporters.
