Uber CEO Travis Kalanick wants to hire a chief operating officer to help him hone leadership skills and manage the beleaguered ride-sharing service, after he and his company suffered a number of highly publicized embarrassments.
Kalanick made the announcement of his prospective hire Tuesday to a room full of staffers during an all-hands meeting, according to Recode.
“This morning I told the Uber team that we’re actively looking for a Chief Operating Officer: a peer who can partner with me to write the next chapter in our journey,” Kalanick said in a statement. (RELATED: Google Boss: Trump Admin Is Going To Do ‘Evil Things’)
Uber’s image has been damaged due to several debacles and missteps.
From allegations of sexual harassment, rampant lewd behavior, systemic sexism and a cutthroat work culture, as well as a number of varying lawsuits, the ride-sharing tech giant is dealing with so many problems that it’s hard to keep track. But bringing on a number two for tech companies isn’t without precedence. Facebook hired Sheryl Sandberg to help founder Mark Zuckerberg with the nuances of leading a large conglomerate. Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, was brought on to work alongside Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
