Uber CEO Travis Kalanick wants to hire a chief operating officer to help him hone leadership skills and manage the beleaguered ride-sharing service, after he and his company suffered a number of highly publicized embarrassments.

But bringing on a number two for tech companies isn’t without precedence. Facebook hired Sheryl Sandberg to help founder Mark Zuckerberg with the nuances of leading a large conglomerate. Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, was brought on to work alongside Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
