Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi promised to work with House Republicans on health care, according to her comments Friday morning at the Christian Science Monitor breakfast.

Her assistance may come with a price, however. Pelosi said that she would not work to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, but she acknowledged that there were several shortcomings in the legislation she rammed through Congress under former President Barack Obama.

“They want to repeal the law, I would be more than happy to sit down with them if they would just stop talking about a repeal,” Pelosi asserted during the breakfast.

“I wish the current plan weren’t so drastic, Republicans have the majority and this could actually become law, but sadly Republicans could not have done any worse than this plan.”

Pelosi says the majority of her opposition comes from the tax break system that would offset costs for “400 of the wealthiest families in America,” according to the minority leader.

Pelosi also claimed that Republicans are ill-informed, choosing to emphasize increased access to health care over guaranteeing that everyone has a health insurance plan.

“This bill only diminishes access,” Pelosi argued.

President Donald Trump appears to be softening his initial strong stance on the healthcare bill, indicating he was open to negotiating, and understood that a straight repeal bill was unlikely in the existing political climate.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell asserted Thursday that he didn’t feel the bill would pass as written, but that multiple members of Congress would be able to attach amendments that would alter some of the key provisions in the law before it was sent to the White House.
