House Speaker Paul Ryan praised President Donald Trump for helping unite Republicans as they work to repeal and replace Obamacare during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday.”

As the lower chamber gears up to vote on the leadership-backed reconciliation bill on Thursday, a number of conservatives have voiced their opposition, saying they want a “seat at the table” during the negotiation process. Members of the administration have been meeting with GOP lawmakers who have expressed concerns in an attempt to help the party reach a consensus.

“The president, you say people being seated at the table, the president is bringing people to his table and I’m very impressed with how the president is helping us close this bill, and making the improvements that we’ve been making, getting the votes,” he told host Chris Wallace.

Ryan said he’s confident he will get the votes needed for the legislation passed in the lower chamber, noting additional changes are expected as it’s marked up in the House Committee on Rules.

“I feel like it’s exactly where we want to be.  The reason I feel so good about this is because the president has become a great closer.  He’s the one who has helped negotiate changes to this bill with members from all over our caucus,” he continued. “I call it getting the sweet spot, you’ve got to get 218 Republicans, who come from all different walks of life, to come together to agree on the best possible plan to repeal and replace Obamacare.”

House Republican leadership has repeatedly said they plan to repeal former President Barack Obama’s landmark health-care legislation using a three-step process starting with the reconciliation bill. The other two prongs include using executive orders to roll back regulations and passing additional replacement bills they could not attach to the initial legislation due to Senate rules.
