A Pennsylvania high school student filed a lawsuit Tuesday against his school district after he was forced to share a locker room with a transgender boy.

The lawsuit alleges that the plaintiff, “Joel Doe,” suffered immense embarrassment when a transgender student changed in front of him, reports CBS Philly.

“Joel Doe experienced immediate confusion, embarrassment, humiliation, and loss of dignity upon finding himself in this circumstance,” the lawsuit maintains.

Doe was in the middle of changing into his P.E. clothes when he spotted the transgender boy student in her bra and shorts. The student was still in the middle of transitioning from female to male, Kellie Fiedorek of the Alliance Defending Freedom, explained.

Doe tried to discuss the incident with school officials, but they brushed it aside and told him to “tolerate” the situation,  the groups representing Doe said.

“It’s an egregious violation for the school to just brush off these students and tell them that their feelings don’t matter and to make it ‘as natural as they possibly can’,” Attorney Randall Wengner with the Independence Law Center said.

The Alliance Defending Freedom and the Independence Law Center are representing Doe and his parents as they sue the school district for sexual harassment and violation of privacy.

“Our laws and customs have long recognized that we shouldn’t have to undress in front of persons of the opposite sex,” Fiedorek said. “But now some schools are bullying our children into giving up their rights even though, in this case, Pennsylvania law requires schools to have separate facilities on the basis of sex.”

The Boyertown Area School District said they had received a demand letter from the groups and are reviewing the situation with their legal counsel.
