Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne will be joining the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to work under Secretary Ben Carson, a source with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed to The Daily Caller.

Van Duyne announced at a luncheon Thursday that she would be joining the Trump administration, but declined to say which department she will be joining, CBS DFW reported. She is expected to make an official announcement sometime next week after completing the necessary paperwork.

Van Duyne declined to comment on the record for this article.

She is expected to bring her experience as a two-term mayor to HUD under Carson, who had no political experience before running for president in the 2016 election.

Van Duyne announced in February that she would not be seeking a third term as mayor of the Texas city, prompting speculation that she would be seeking a position in the Trump administration.

A HUD spokesperson declined to comment, citing department policy against commenting on non-employees.

Van Duyne will help fill one of many positions still vacant at HUD.
