Alabama Republican Rep. Mike Rogers introduced legislation this week that would require illegal immigrants to pay for the southern border wall.
According to Al.com, the bill would charge a 2 percent fee on all wire transfers to the home country of illegal immigrants.
“This bill is simple — anyone who sends their money to countries that benefit from our porous borders and illegal immigration should be responsible for providing some of the funds needed to complete the wall,” Rogers said in a statement.
He added, “This bill keeps money in the American economy, and most importantly, it creates a funding stream to build the wall.”
Fellow Alabama Republican Rep. Mo Brooks co-sponsored the bill and praised it on Twitter.
I fully support @POTUS’ effort to build the wall & have Mexico pay for it. Glad to cosponsor @RepMikeRogersAL bill to fund construction. https://t.co/NXpfD8N90I

Funding for the border wall, according to House Speaker Paul Ryan, may have to be delayed. Ryan told CBS News Thursday that Congress will not be able to satisfy President Donald Trump’s request for more money for the wall until next year.
“The big chunk of money for the wall, really, is … next fiscal year’s appropriations because they literally can’t start construction even this quickly,” he said.
