The National Republican Senatorial Committee took in its highest monthly haul for a non-election year, raising $7 million in March.

According to Roll Call, the Senate Republicans’ campaign organization raised more than $16 million and has more than $13 million cash on hand. During the last off-year in March 2015, the NRSC raised $4.8 million and even raised $1 million more than last year during the presidential election.

Roll Call notes the NRSC has brought in 20,000 new contributors this election cycle. The upper chamber races will prove to be contentious as the Democratic caucus must defend 25 seats. Republicans have to defend only nine Senate seats.

If Republicans manage to maintain their current number and flip at least eight Democratic Senate seats, they will have a filibuster-proof majority.
