A Las Vegas-based Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official used his government credit card to purchase a $14,799 in gym memberships.

A conservative advocacy group released documents purporting to show EPA contracting officer Kevin Broadnax bought 37 year-long memberships at Super Sport gym on April 11, 2017. Broadnax used his government charge card to pay for these memberships.

The sheer amount of paperwork related to the transaction suggests that multiple EPA officials were aware of the purchase.

Broadnax did not respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The Super Sport gym is open 24 hours a day and has “thousands of square feet of spectacular workout space, complete with premium gym equipment [and] unmatched amenities” including a sauna, steam room, towel service, a jetted whirlpool Jacuzzi, and volleyball and basketball courts. It is “the ultimate daily retreat,” according to the gym’s website.

Super Sport employee Kevynne Wilkerson told TheDCNF a membership package includes access to all eight locations in Las Vegas, which have racquetball courts and outdoor pools heated year-round to a comfortable 84 degrees. Las Vegas EPA employees, however, already have access to an award-winning gym at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV). That gym has volleyball, basketball, racquetball, a spacious cardio center, a 200-meter indoor track, a spa, a juice bar and a pool.

“Those apologists who pretend that reducing waste and corruption in the EPA is an attack on Mother Earth stand exposed as the frauds they are,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, the group that obtained the documents through a Freedom of Information Act request.

“Ending corruption and self-enrichment is good for the environment and other living things,” Norquist said in the emailed statement.
