Donald and Melania Trump hosted the 139th annual Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn at the White House Monday.

“Welcome to the White House,” Trump said as he greeted the crowd. “We will be stronger and bigger and better as a nation than ever before and we are right on track.”

“We’re going to come out and join you, enjoy your company for a roll — a great Easter Egg Roll. I don’t know if we’re going to be successful, but I know a lot of people, they’re going to be successful. I’ve seen those kids, and they’re highly, highly competitive.”

“I just want to thank the first lady. She has been working on this for a long time to make it perfect. I want to congratulate her on this wonderful, wonderful day.”

An estimated 21,000 people are expected to attend the event.

Melania Trump thanked the military as she welcomed the families to the White House before reading “Party Animals” by Kathie Lee Gifford to a group of children.

“I want to thank the military band, all the staff, and all the volunteers who worked very hard to make sure we have a memorable experience,” Melania said. “I want to thank all of the military in this great nation, and servicemen and servicewomen all around the world who are keeping us safe.”

“I hope you have a great time with many activities.”
