House Budget Committee Chairman Diane Black said she’s ready to do whatever she can to help GOP House candidate Karen Handel win the special election in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District.

“She’s absolutely the right person for that congressional district seat,” Black told The Daily Caller News Foundation Friday. “So, I’m excited she’s a strong woman, she has a proud voice for the unborn, which you know is something that I’m really passionate about, and she’s someone who is willing to shake up the status quo.”

Handel, the former secretary of state of Georgia, is facing off against Democrat Jon Ossoff in the race for the seat formerly held by Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price. A runoff election is expected to take place after none of the candidates in the crowded field managed to take 50 percent of the vote April 19.

Black noted she’s invested in working to get more conservative women elected to Congress. She said it’s an thrilling time for women in politics, adding she’s particularly excited about Handel’s conviction to fight for pro-life policies.

Handel has expressed interest in obtaining a seat on the House Budget Committee if elected, and according to Black, she is more than qualified. Black said she is particularly impressed with Handel’s roll in balancing the county’s budget without raising taxes.

“Oh my goodness, yes, she has been very accomplished in what she’s been able to do in the state with fiscal issues, and so I would be delighted to have her on my committee,” she told TheDCNF. As you may know, I’m the only female Republican on that committee currently, so I would welcome the another woman — and she certainly is someone has the background having served there at the local level as the chairman of the Fulton County board of commissioners.”

Black’s PAC has already transferred $1000 to Handel’s campaign, and she’s said she’s prepared to help with both grassroots efforts and fundraising for the campaign.

I will be talking with Karen and finding out what it is that she needs — whether it’s for me to come down there and campaign for her or whether it’s just raising money to make sure that she has a good financial base as she runs her race. So I’ll be leaving that up to Karen and asking her what I can do for her, but I’m all in for Karen,” she said.
