Dramatic video released by the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) captured a shocking shooting incident in which a man brazenly runs up to another man and fires multiple shots from point-blank range before taking off in a mad dash.

A nearby surveillance camera captured the harrowing ordeal:

The incident occurred April 12 at approximately 8:25 PM in the 800 block of 9th Street in Northeast Washington, D.C. Police are searching for a black male, 5’8″, wearing black pants, and a white long sleeve shirt.

The area where the shooting occurred is located in a part of D.C. that is experiencing an influx of new development and residential construction. The 800 block of 9th Street NE is along the H street corridor of the city, a vibrant location full of shops, restaurants, bars and the arts. A new street car operates up and down the one and a half mile stretch, another testament to the developments happening in the area.

There were 135 homicides in the District in 2016, according to the Washington Post, which is a 16.7 percent decrease from 2015. There have been 23 shooting deaths in Washington, D.C., so far in 2017.

MPD told the Daily Caller News Foundation (TheDCNF) that there is no further information at this time and it is an active investigation. TheDCNF could not confirm the status of the victim.

Police are asking anyone with knowledge of the incident or who can identify the individuals shown to call (202) 727-9099 or text 50411.
