Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren says she was “troubled” to learn that President Obama will receive $400,000 to speak at a Wall Street conference later this year.
“What do you think about President Obama accepting $400,000 from Wall Street?” Warren was asked during an interview on Sirius XM’s “Alter Family Politics.”
“Well, I was troubled by that,” responded Warren, a progressive Democrat who many believe will run for president in 2020.
Warren has been an outspoken critic of Wall Street. Prior to entering the Senate in 2013, she served as special adviser to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an agency created by Obama in response to the 2008 financial crisis. (RELATED: Obama Is Cashing In With Massive Wall Street Speech)
It was reported earlier this week that Obama signed a contract with Cantor Fitzgerald to speak at a health care conference hosted by the investment bank in September. The $400,000 payout rivals the hefty speaking fees paid to Bill Clinton. It’s nearly double what Hillary Clinton earned on the political speechmaking circuit.
